Not all of us can appreciate the art of trolling. It is a misunderstood form of art just like abstract art. Sure, it is stupid and pointless but the magic of it is in the six traits (Ideas, Organization, Voice, Sentence Fluency, Word Choice, Conventions). When a person truly comprehends these necessities, then he or she will acknowledge it as a form of linguistic writing.
Ideas: Is your idea unoriginal? Has your idea been repeated before? Does your idea have a high chance of backlash by other fellow users?
When a troll comes into the forum, his or her idea are crammed with those properties. This is the backbone of the lofty message the user is trying to post. Without the ideas, his or her post will be considered rational by the viewers. An example of a post with the ideas trait in mind is "Kongregate sucks because it doesn't have adult movies!" Without the ideas trait but the same topic and consensus in mind, it will be "Kongregate is by far the most unadulterated and child-friendly site I've ever seen in my whole life!" Thus, the latter is the antithesis we must avoid and the former a marvel to use.
Organization: Does your paragraph order make illogical sense? Do the sentences sound very long-winded and redundant?
Remember that a troll is here to make everyone's life hell. If you are here to write an essay about why Kongregate needs adult movies, it will be considered harmless. Instead, mess up your paragraph in the most artistic way possible. In fact, your organization could have nonsensical ideas like what the ideas trait states above. An example could be that the first paragraph is about why hentai is amazing, then the second is about you ranting about PETA, and then the third/last paragraph could be about adult movies actually help people to mature.
Voice: Does the voice sound computerized to you? Does your voice make sense to only you but not everyone else?
The voice makes the post look more idiotic, a thumbs up for trolls. If you can't think of a personae for such atrocity, you may want heart-breaking shows in channels like FOX News. Imitate their pundits writing voice and write it in. Capital letters can visualize the reader that you have a mental breakdown and need to go to the asylum.
Sentence Fluency: Does the sentence stop abruptly?
It's important. Gives. Artistic power! Yeah!
Word Choice: Are you using bombastic or childish words that does not make sense to your readers?
This question depends on the voice you're trying to accomplish. Are you trying to be a smart aleck or an imbecile who is trying to solve the puzzle of puberty? The word choice can affect your voice a lot. An example for the former could be "onlinesports123, you flabbergast me with your fallacious argument that adult films derail the immaculate mind of a child? Bah humbug!" For the latter, it could be "it teachers us dat adulthewd is actualleh kewl adn teachers us mane tings aboot sex!"
Conventions: Are you using different tenses to confuse people in your argument?
Usually together with word choice and voice, it can override the human mind with questions on the legitimacy of the author. For example, "Adult films is goodest of all because it had impact on American society in the past. Hugh Hefner teach us that sex are best and love were past."
After reading this, I hope that you can understand the effort these trolls had to put. In order to be irrational, one must know how to be rational. I hope DeviantArt will put a section on trolling because it's such an obscure, mysterious yet fascinating art that still surprises me in every turn it takes.
